How to Clean Jewellery

Jewellery pieces add beauty, sparkle, and life to your outfit. Over time, however, they accumulate dust, sweat, and dirt, reducing their sparkle and their visual appeal. Fortunately, most jewellery can be cleaned easily using readily available household materials.

First, if the piece contains stones and other attachments, make sure they are securely fastened. Loose stones or parts may get lost or scratch and damage the jewellery as you clean it.

Next, wash the piece with a mild over-the-counter jewellery formula. You can also make your own solution by mixing three parts water and one part liquid detergent. For diamonds that are not set into the metal, use ammonia instead of detergent. Soak the piece in the solution and scrub it with an old toothbrush. The bristles of the toothbrush are small and flexible enough to get to the tiny nooks and crannies. After thoroughly scrubbing the entire piece, wipe it dry using a soft, lint-free jewellery cloth.

Periodically, have your jewellery cleaned by professionals. These specialists use advanced cleaning methods such as ultrasonic technology to get rid of encrusted dirt that cannot be removed by simple scrubbing.
